Noah is exposed to a mixed language situation, with some people speaking to him only or mostly in Maltese, some speaking to him mostly in (Maltese-)English and some mixing languages. He is, and has been for quite a while, very aware of the two languages and he adapts himself to the linguistic situation, depending on the language or language-mix used by his discourse partner. He is very consistent when speaking to us (his parents). By the way, we speak Maltese to each other, although there are situations in which we speak English or code-switch with friends. Noah is also aware of, and knows, a few words of German and Italian.
