Madeleine (8 Oct 2000)
We try to use the OPOL approach but as Madeleine has so little exposure to French I also speak French to her when the three of us are together. We would love to get in touch with other French/English families in the Lincolnshire area.

Would love to hear from English – Russian or Russian families.

We both speak each other's langauges (I fluently, my husband haltingly but with excellent passive understanding). We have a fairly laid-back approach as to who speaks what, but I spend LOTS of time reading, speaking and singing to them in Swedish. Katie goes to the local English school and has no Swedish friends here, but we spend summer holidays in Sweden. Am just starting to teach her to read Swedish, next step will be writing! The kids seem more or less balanced bilinguals on this approach, though some areas are clearly more associated with one language. No sign of confusion: they will switch languages when speaking to us, but keep them apart when speaking to monolinguals. We would love to get in touch with other bilinguals in UK (or elsewhere). Am also running NCT coffee group for foreign parents in Soton- always looking for more members!

I hope to bring up my son to be completely fluent in both his mothertongues,
and for this purpose, I'd like contact with other Danish speaking children
and adults in our area, for play and sharing of ideas and experience with
keeping the ml language.
I also run the Danish mothergroup/legestue in London, please see
www.freewebs.com/londonmor for further information.

When we are all at home we speak Arabic, though when Nadia was very young, until two years old it was OPOL which I am trying to implement with Nadine now. my children speak Serbian, Arabic and English as we live in the UK. I would like to come in touch with other similar families.

Karim (30 Mar 2001) and Franzisca (7 Sep 2002)
I am German, my husband is Iranian and we communicate in English as we live in the UK. We are using the OPOL approach and both children understand all languages quite well. However, Karim is almost three and is rather slow with talking. I would be very interested in setting up a regular German group in my area.

Tali (2 Aug 1997)
I am trying the OPOL approach, but find it sometimes difficult, because Ash speaks hardly any German in order to understand everything. This makes it difficult to have a three way conversation. I am the only person to speak German to Tali, so the English input is far greater. But whenever we've been to see my family in Germany she's always picked it up quite well. As I also speak French and Spanish, I sometimes try to familiarise Tali with these languages, too, which she picks up very well. It would be great to hearfrom bilingual or multilingual families in our area.

Annis joined the German speaking Kindergruppe in Newcastle when she was only 5 months old. Speaking and hearing German from other German speakers, especially children, positively influenced her bilingual and bicultural identity. You can find more information under http://www.wildnorth.org.uk/kinder
