Looking to talk to other parents of French/English children either living in Paris or the UK. Hoping to hear some reassurance from minority language speakers (eg like me, English living in France) that our mother tongue can be learned by the child and quite well. I have been reading a book which almost 'frightens' me with regards the difficulties encountered in this situation. |

I've found it a tremendous help to be in contact with other families in the same situation, exchange experiences and ideas. It's been very good for Muriel to get together with other English speaking children, so I'd be keen to meet up. |

Would like to exchange experiences in getting children to speak the minority language. My two eldest go to French schools and we speak English at home. The youngest only speaks English but hears French spoken around him. In September 2004 he will go to a French nursery school in France. |

I try to speak English with my son. Although I
have a good pronunciation, I have a true lack of vocabulary. I'm looking for
other parents speaking English to their young children. I'd like to find a
playgroup near my place too. |

Our children are fluent in French, they go to French public schools, watch movies in French etc. Even though I speak to them in English at home, it sometimes doesn't seem like enough. Their English would improve if some of their daily experiences were in English. |

We aren't sure yet where we live! Currently, things are a little crazy, with a lot of trips back and forth across the ocean. I speak English to Matthew most of the time, but I try to speak French with him a little every week. My husband speaks Punjabi to him when it's just the two of them, but I can't get him to continue when I'm there (hard since I don't understand much of it). Iqbal and I speak French to each other. |
